Casper Man Accused of Rape
A Casper man accused of sexually assaulting a then-minor could face decades in prison if convicted of the charges brought against him in Natrona County District Court.
Kristopher Joshua Letz is charged with first-degree sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault and sexual exploitation of children. Combined, the crimes are punishable by 12-82 years in prison.
Prosecutors allege Letz raped his ex-girlfriend, who was younger than 18 years of age at the time, in early December.
The alleged victim told police that she and Letz met in July 2016 and dated until late August 2017, when they broke up. In the first or second week of December, she went over to Letz's residence to discuss the breakup.
That's when Letz allegedly forced her to have sex with him, according to the victim's statement to a forensic interviewer.
In an interview with a Casper police detective, Letz initially denied having sexually assaulted his ex-girlfriend. However, Letz later said, "She may have told me to stop," and that he held the victim's hands above her head during the assault.
Letz allegedly told the detective that, "She wasn't going to tell anybody, that it's happened before, that I don't know... I don't know."
The victim also told police that Letz "overpowered" her during a November 2016 sexual assault.
"I just kind of gave up and let him do his thing," the victim told police regarding that incident. She also said that Letz had pressured her to have sex with him for the first time in August 2016, and that she cried "a lot" afterward.
The alleged victim also told the forensic interviewer at the Children's Advocacy Project that she spoke with another girl who would no longer hang out with Letz because he had tried to touch her inappropriately.
Court records show Letz's case was placed on the trial stack for Nov. 5.
