Blood.....it's not just for vampires anymore. There are many creatures on God's green planet that also enjoy ingesting the precious substance that keeps us alive.

Here are 5 animals that are deemed "blood suckers." Be careful this weekend, as they may be coming for you.

  1. The Candiru Catfish - This blood thirsty creature enjoys sucking the blood of other fish, especially through it's gills which are rich with blood. This fish can be found in and around the Amazon.
  2. Hood Mockingbird - If you have an open wound, then you don't want to be around this little creature. It's long and curved bill allows the bird to sip blood from other sea birds. These birds like to inhabit subtropical lands and have been seen on Española Island.
  3. Cooper's Nutmeg Snail - One of the favorite dainties of this creature is the Pacific Electric Eel Ray. The eel emits a chemical which attracts the blood sucking snail who can be found in sandy beaches, if you can indeed find one. They're pretty hard to find.
  4. Lamprey - This scary looking creature is a parasite and uses its razor sharp teeth which enables him to drill directly into the bodies of their prey, mostly fish and literally sucks out their insides. Who needs a Dustbuster, when you have one of these?
  5. The Calyptra Moth - On the outside, it looks like a cute little butterfly, but make no mistake, it will suck the blood out of almost any mammal and has been known to be as mean as "the junkyard dog." With their ever-changing habitats, they have been seen in Malaysia, Southern Europe and Finland.
