In Wyoming, mayoral and city council races are non-partisan, meaning the candidates do not formally affiliate with a political party when running for office. Instead, the two top vote getters in the primary election advance as nominees to the November General election.
By contrast, county races for offices such as sheriff, county commission and others are partisan, meaning candidates can run in party primaries and affiliate with a political party in the November General Election.
Wyoming's 2026 Primary Election will be held on August 18. The U.S. General Election will be held on Nov. 3, 2026.
