Happy National Hot Dog Day! To celebrate, here's a tribute to the Weenie Wrangler from Cheyenne.

Chef Benjamin McCormick had a fine-dining background before he opened a hot dog cart in the parking lot outside of Home Depot in 2013. The Weenie Wrangler quickly earned a following for his creative brats, hot dogs, and sausages made with bison, boar, elk, and even "Jackalope". Then, the national acclaim came.

In 2017, Weenie Wrangler was honored as best in Wyoming by the United States of Hot Dogs. In 2018, People magazine named it the top dog in the Cowboy State. Earlier this year, McCormick was recognized again by The Daily Meal who named his hot dog cart one of the best places to eat in the state.

In April, McCormick sold his cart, which now operates in the Home Depot parking lot under the name Border Dogs, and accepted a job as the Executive Pastry Chef at the United States Senate in Washington, D.C.

"Hopefully, my family and I can make Wyoming proud," McCormick said. "We are kicking around the idea of putting together a food truck and starting a Weenie Wrangler 2.0 in D.C. We shall see."
