Boy Injured After Being Hit in Crosswalk Near Baggs Elementary
A 12-year-old Cheyenne boy suffered injuries after being struck by a vehicle on his way home from school Thursday afternoon.
It happened around 3:45 p.m. at the intersection of East Pershing Boulevard and McCann Avenue near Baggs Elementary School.
Police spokeswoman Alex Farkas says the boy was attempting to cross East Pershing Boulevard in the school zone crosswalk when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle traveling at a low speed.
"The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center," Farkas said in a new release.
Farkas didn't know the extent of the boy's injuries.

"The driver of the vehicle, a 16-year-old male (from Cheyenne), remained on-scene to assist officers with their investigation and was issued a citation," Farkas said.
The incident remains under investigation by the Cheyenne Police Department.
Dangerous School Crossing
Sadly, this isn't the first time a Baggs Elementary School student has been hit in this crosswalk, and the City of Cheyenne hopes to have a new HAWK (high-intensity activated crosswalk) signal installed at the intersection before school starts next year.

A signal will also be going up at Western Hills Boulevard and Moccasin Avenue in front of McCormick Junior High School where 13-year-old student Makaili "Mak" Evans was hit and killed by an SUV roughly two and a half years ago.

The city currently has one HAWK signal on Yellowstone Road near Davis Elementary School, and City Engineer Tom Cobb says there have been no accidents at that crossing.
