1 Dead, 1 Injured After SUV Hits Post, Rolls on I-80 in Wyoming

The Wyoming Highway Patrol says speed and driver fatigue may be to blame for a single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 80 that left one person dead and another injured.

The crash happened around 3:40 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, at milepost 164.7, about eight miles west of Wamsutter.

According to a fatality crash summary, 33-year-old Rhode Island resident Mukadas Lawal was behind the wheel of an eastbound Lexus SUV when the SUV drifted off the median shoulder and hit a delineator post.

Lawal corrected hard to the right and skidded across both travel lanes, then overcorrected hard to the left.

"As the vehicle skidded to the passenger side, one of the rims dug into the asphalt causing the vehicle to trip and roll multiple times," the summary reads.

Lawal was not wearing a seat belt and died from their injuries.

Lawal's passenger was also injured in the crash, but the summary didn't say to what extent.

Of the 82 people who have died on Wyoming's highways so far this year, 21, or 26%, have died in crashes on I-80.
