CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Elk hunters in Wyoming killed a record number of elk last year.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department reports that favorable hunting conditions, long seasons and a growing elk population all contributed to hunters killing the highest number of elk ever in 2012

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will accept resident hunting applications for elk, deer and antelope through the end of May. The Game and Fish has been accepting resident applications online since the first of the year, but the month of May is when the Game and Fish starts accepting paper applications.
