A Laramie man died in a two vehicle crash early this morning. According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, 44-year-old John M. Scandrett died from injuries sustained when his vehicle rear ended a tractor-trailer on U.S. 287 near mile marker 419 at about 6:25 a.m.

The Patrol says that a 1996 Peterbuilt tractor-trailer combination unit driven by 58-year-old Alexander Wade of Fort Collins was travelling northbound on U.S. 287 south of Laramie and slowing to make a right hand turn into a construction area parking lot.

Scandrett was also driving northbound in a 2008 Toyota Yaris. His vehicle rear ended the semi at highway speeds, says the Highway Patrol.

Scandrett was wearing his seat belt, but sustained fatal injuries from the crash. Wade, who was also wearing his seatbelt, was uninjured.

Contributing factors are still being investigated at this time.

Scandrett’s death marks the 135th fatality on Wyoming highways in 2014.
