Hill Announces Run for Governor in 2014

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Cindy Hill says she will run for Governor of Wyoming in 2014. Hill made the announcement Thursday morning on ”The Morning Zone” program with Dave Chaffin on KGAB-AM  radio in Cheyenne.

Governor Matt Mead this week signed into law a bill that essentially strips the superintendent’s office of leadership of the state Department of Education, reassigning those duties to a person appointed by the governor. Hill has filed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of that move, which she says is an attempt to circumvent the will of the people. She says that is one of the main reasons she is running, adding she has received calls and e-mails from across the state in support of her position.

Hill’s critics, including many state lawmakers says she has mismanaged the education department and failed to carry out legislative directives on education reform. Hill, who is a Republican, is the first announced candidate for Wyoming Governor. Current Governor Matt Mead, also a Republican, was elected to his first term in 2010 and has so far not said whether he plans to run for re-election
