We all say things that we wish we wouldn't have said. It is especially damaging to our spouse, fiance' or significant other. Sometimes we say things that offends our spouse because we didn't stop to think before we spoke. Instead of building up the relationship, people find their self tearing it down. Today on the Top 5 at 7:45, I'll highlight comments that may run off your spouse, when you weren't even trying to.

  1. We Have To See Your Family Again? Your in-laws may not be your favorite people, but they are your spouse's peeps. Rather than criticize, have a conversation about it.
  2. You're Wearing.....That? If you're spouse welcomes these comments, then fine. Go for it. If they are sensitive about it, then avoid this kind of comment. Remember, wisdom built the marriage and the lack of it, tears it down.
  3. Stop Driving That Way! Unless you are in serious danger, or are warning them about a blind spot, ride and don't "drive."
  4. Don't Touch My Phone! What are you trying to hide? What's the big deal? Privacy is one thing, but if you spouse needs to use your phone and you freak out, one must wonder why the response?
  5. I Make More Money Than You! So.....what's that got to do with love or your relationship? This is cruel and certainly a cheap shot during an argument. Of course if your finishing the statement with "....so I'll pay for the meal", then that's no problem.
