Members of the state and local chapters of the Wyoming State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented Governor Matt Mead with a Constitution Flag on Friday June 15th.

Darla Teter, state regent, says the flag commemorates the 225th anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution. Teter says the Daughters of the American Revolution were responsible for getting Constitution Week named nationally. Constitution Day is September 17th.

In 1955, the DAR petitioned congress to set aside September 17-23 annually to be dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week. The resolution was later adopted by the U.S. Congress and signed into law on August 2, 1956, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Donna Weaver, with the Cheyenne Chapter of the DAR says to celebrate Constitution Week, the Wyoming Society of the DAR will send a package to every 5th grader in Wyoming which will include a copy of the U.S. Constitution,  and a a lesson plan.
