Buffalo Rancher Mark Gordon was sworn in Thursday morning as Wyoming's new State Treasurer. Gordon was named Friday by Governor Matt Mead to replace Joe Meyer, who recently passed away at the age of 71. Gordon had until recently served on the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, and also has lifelong experience in the ranching industry as well as a background in the energy industry.

He ran unsuccessfully in the Republican primary for congress in 2008. Gordon says that although he brings a wealth of experience to his new job. no one can truly replace Meyer, a man Gordon characterized Thursday as ''a great part of Wyoming, in fact almost synonymous with Wyoming". He also said one advantage he will have in his new role "is the fact that Joe Meyer left me with a great staff".
