When aviatrix Amelia Earhart's plane went missing, many across the Cowboy State, and the nation, were trying to find out where she was--including one Wyoming boy.

On July 5, 1937, the Casper Tribune - Herald had a report that a young, 12-year-old boy, by the name of Charles Randolph, had been flipping through his short wave radio and heard, what he thought, was the voice of Amelia Earhart.

The Rock Springs boy described the voice as faint, but could hear the voice saying, "Amelia Earhart calling." This obviously got his attention and he ran to tell his father, Dana Randolph, about the voice on the other end of the short wave.

After his dad contacted the wire chief, who contacted the Department of Commerce, Bureau of Aviation, it was told him that his son Charles, very well may have heard the voice.

The boy also stated that he could hear something along the lines of 'a ship being on the south reef of the equator,' but it was never really verified as being Earhart.

Because the young boy was not a licensed radio operator, officials took it for what it was worth.

Amelia Earhart had visited Kirwin, Wyoming and had a cabin built there, of which she was never did occupy.
