An inmate in the Laramie County Detention Center is facing a felony charge after allegedly assaulting a jailer.

According to a booking sheet, 36-year-old Cheyenne resident Vanessa Marie Trujillo reportedly punched a Laramie County Sheriff's deputy in the face.

The incident occurred at about 7:15 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 29.

A deputy was directed to conduct an investigation and on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 5:30 p.m., booked Trujillo in on a new charge of causing or attempting to cause bodily injury to a peace officer, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

As of 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, Trujillo had yet to be formally charged, meaning she'll likely make her initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Friday, Feb. 2, at 1:30 p.m.
