Property Damage Report Leads to Wanted Cheyenne Man’s Arrest

A wanted Cheyenne man is behind bars after reportedly causing thousands of dollars worth of damage to his roommate's property and the home they live in.

According to a booking sheet, police were called to 25-year-old Ashton Taylor Payne's home at 5002 Maple Way at 3:21 p.m. on Easter Sunday, March 31, for a report of felony property damage.

Police say Payne was named as the suspect in the situation by a roommate who sustained more than $1,000 worth of property damage.

Police say the homeowner also sustained more than $1,000 worth of damage to their home.

At 9:57 a.m. on Monday, April 1, police responded to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center - West Campus at 214 E. 23rd St. to contact Payne, who was known to be at the location for mental health issues.

Police say Payne had an extraditable warrant out of Larimer County, Colorado for failing to appear on two counts of felony menacing with a simulated weapon.

Payne was arrested and booked into the Laramie County Detention Center on his warrant and two counts of felony property destruction.

As of 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Payne had yet to be formally charged.

UPDATE: Payne Charged With Felony Property Destruction, Misdemeanor Theft

Payne made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday on one count of felony property destruction and one count of misdemeanor theft.

His bond was set at $2,500 cash and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for April 11 at 2 p.m.
