Nearly 5 Pounds of Meth Seized During Traffic Stop in Cheyenne

A 58-year-old Cheyenne man is facing a felony charge after police reportedly found nearly five pounds of methamphetamine during a traffic stop in southwest Cheyenne.

According to a booking sheet, Gary Lee Campbell was pulled over in the Sinclair parking lot at 3306 W. College Dr. at 11:39 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 29, for a turn signal violation.

Turn Signal Violation Leads to Drug Arrest

During the traffic stop, Officer Sweet arrived with his K-9 partner, Dutch, who alerted on the vehicle.

When police searched the vehicle, they reportedly found approximately 2,230 grams (4.92 pounds) of suspected methamphetamine and 3.30 grams of suspected marijuana in plant form.

Campbell was ultimately arrested and booked into the Laramie County Detention Center for felony manufacture or delivery of methamphetamine, a crime punishable by up to 20 years in prison, up to a $25,000 fine, or both.

He was also booked on a misdemeanor possession of marijuana charge.

UPDATE:

Campbell made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Friday afternoon on four counts -- felony possession of methamphetamine, felony manufacture or delivery of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, and a misdemeanor turn signal violation.

His bond was set at $25,000 cash and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for March 8 at 9 a.m.
