The second annual Wyoming Summit on Community Colleges is scheduled for Tuesday in Casper. The event is sponsored by the Wyoming Association of Community College Trustees. Organization Executive Director Steve Bahmer says the summit will include representatives of the state's seven community colleges as well as the University of Wyoming, state legislators and educators from the state's k-12 educational system. Bahmer says the focus of the conference will be trying to find ways to reduce the number of Wyoming college students who must take remedial courses as freshmen and to increase the number of students who finish their college education. He says a recent study showed that roughly half of community college students in the state have to take at least one such course. Bahmer says that although he considers that number too high, Wyoming's percentage of students requiring remedial courses is roughly in line with most states across the country.

Bahmer says the keynote address for the summit will be given by Stan Jones, President of Complete College America. Bahmer says several other experts on various aspects of higher education will also be speaking at the even, which is scheduled  for Tuesday from 9am until 3:30 pm at Casper College.
