A woman who has served in the Wyoming Army National Guard for nearly three decades will be promoted to the rank of brigadier general and take command of the Guard before the week is out.

Here is the full press release from the Wyoming Army National Guard:

Col. Tammy Maas will be promoted to brigadier general in the Wyoming Army National Guard at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Joint Forces Readiness Center, in Cheyenne.

Directly after her promotion, Maas will assume command of the Wyoming Army National Guard from Brig. Gen. Steve Mount.

As the assistant adjutant general - Army, for the Wyoming National Guard, Maas will oversee the mission and people in the roughly 1,600-member force.

Maas previously served as the Wyoming Army National Guard chief of staff.

She has been a member of the Wyoming Army National Guard since 1989.
