A 20-year-old Cheyenne transient could face up to 10 years in prison after police caught him behind the wheel of a stolen van.

Fabian Hernandez was arrested on April 21 after police responding to a report of a reckless driver in a stolen white van pulled him over in the 800 block of W. 1st Avenue.

Police say Hernandez told them that a friend had given him the van about five to 10 minutes prior to the traffic stop to go pick up tools. He said his friend got the van from an old man, but he couldn't remember where he'd picked the van up from.

Hernandez was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property.

Hernandez is currently being held in the Laramie County jail on a $3,000 cash bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 3 at 9:30 a.m.
