The Cheyenne Police Academy will offer the Citizen's Police Academy next month, according to Officer Dan Long.

Long says the 10-week course gives people the chance to learn how police work and investigations are really conducted, as opposed to the way it is portrayed on television and in movies. He says besides offering people training in such areas as constitutional law and investigative techniques, participants will also get the opportunity for hands-on experience.

Long says the course is free, but participants must submit to a background check, have a valid drivers license and sign a liability waiver. He also says the class is limited to 30 slots, so anyone interested may want to apply sooner rather than later.

The next segment kicks off on February 26, and people can register at the Cheyenne Police Department website.
