Laramie County Commission on Tuesday lifted the full and partial burn bans in the county. Laramie county Fire Warden Bill McHenry says while the risk for fire is diminished, but it’s not completely gone. McHenry says vegetation is dried out and light fuels like grass and brush are susceptible to catching fire. He adds that as the wind picks up this time of year, the fire will travel fast.McHenry says if you are going to burn, whether it’s a campfire or in a burn barrel, you should make sure all vegetation should be cleared within a 10 feet radius.  If you are burning in a burn barrel use a mesh screen with openings no larger than a quarter-inch, have a hose or fire extinguisher handy, and never burning when it is windy or relative humidity is 30 percent or less.

Before and after lighting a controlled burn, call the non-emergency fire number at 637-6410 to report it. McHenry says the Air Quality Division of the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality has additional rules pertaining to open burning and a permit may be required in some situations.
