The Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities is warning residents about a phone scam in which a caller threatens potential victims  with having their water and sewer service shut off.

BOPU spokesman Clint Bassett says the caller demands immediate payment over the phone via credit card. He says the calls are bogus and should be reported to the BOPU, which will pass the information on to the Cheyenne Police Department.

Bassett is asking people who receive the calls to use caller ID to determine the time, date, originating phone number and any other details so the information can be forwarded to investigators.
