Sunshine and blue skies make this time of year perfect for camping and outdoor activities.

With the Memorial Day weekend approaching, the Bureau of Land Management asks everyone to be extra careful in the outdoors due to the increased wildfire danger this year.

Holiday weekends are a great time for friends and families to enjoy the outdoors, but be aware of the fire danger and the risks of a spark causing a wildfire.

“We urge safety and preparedness when traveling in wildland areas. Extremely dry conditions are primed for wildfires, and it takes diligence from everyone to avoid sparking a fire,” said State Fire Management Officer Kyle Cowan.

Currently, no special restrictions are in effect on BLM land, however year-round restrictions remain in place. Those restrictions include not using or discharging fireworks, not discharging a firearm using incendiary or tracer ammunition, not burning, igniting, or causing any tire, wire, magnesium, or any other hazardous explosive material to burn. Operating any off-road vehicle on public lands is also not allowed unless the vehicle is equipped with a properly installed spark arrester.
