CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A bipartisan bill sponsored by nine lawmakers would prohibit law enforcement agencies from setting quotas of citations that officers have to write.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports  the Wyoming Highway Patrol implemented a quota in August, but agency officials dropped the policy in December after public pushback.
Rep. Charles Pelkey, a Democrat from Laramie, says "we're merely putting that into law, rather than leaving it up to each department."

He says quotas put too much pressure on officers and undermine their ability to use discretion.
