Airline Ticket Scam Reported

The Sweetwater County Sheriff's Department says it has been receiving complaints about an e-mail scam promising phony airline tickets.

Spokesman Dick Blust says the scam begins with an e-mail purporting to be a "Customer Notification" from American Airlines. The ''notification" tells the recipient they have an already paid for airline ticket waiting if they will follow a link to a website to download the ticket.

Blust says the website asks questions designed to get personal financial information, which can later be used to steal money from bank accounts and other financial reserves. Blust also says those who contact the website may be victimized by spyware or computer viruses. He says the best thing to do is to delete the e-mail.
