Wyoming Woman Airlifted To Salt Lake City After ATV Crash
A Green River woman was taken by helicopter to a Utah hospital following an ATV crash in Sweetwater County on Saturday, according to Sweetwater County Sheriff Mike Lowell.
The sheriff says a sheriff's deputy and her K9 partner were sent to the telephone canyon area west of Green River at little before 2:30 p.m. Saturday on a report of an all-terrain vehicle accident.
When the deputy got there she found a 2011 Polaris ATV tipped on its passenger side, but didn't see anyone at the scene of the crash. But her police dog, Huk, picked up the scent that led to a nearby hill, where the trail appeared to end.
The Deputy, Amanda Buller, reported what she had found and learned the driver of the ATV, Micheal Coates of Green River, had called his daughter with his cell phone and been picked up.
His wife, Sharon Coates, who had suffered a serious hand injury in the crash, had also been picked up. Micheal Coates was treated at a Rock Springs hospital. Sharon Coates was flown to the University of Utah hospital in Salt Lake City.
The crash remains under investigation, but Sheriff Lowell says alcohol isn't believed to have been a factor.
