Wyoming To Get Federal Highway Money Through May

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming highway officials say they're relieved Congress funded highway construction through May but disappointed lawmakers didn't come up with a longer-term solution.

The $10.8 billion bill approved Thursday keeps federal funds flowing to states through next May.

The Associated Press reported Saturday state Department of Transportation District Engineer Pat Persson says Wyoming would have had to delay some projects if the bill hadn't passed.

Persson says it's difficult to plan when the state doesn't know how much federal money it will get year-to-year.

The federal government contributes about 66 percent of the state's $354 million annual construction and maintenance budget. Nationally, states to pick up an average of 60 percent of the spending.
