Trump Opponents Rally At Wyoming Capitol In ”No Kings” Protest
A crowd that appeared to number around 300-400 people or so braved a brisk Wyoming October day at the Wyoming Capitol Building on Saturday for a "No Kings" rally to protest what they say are the autocratic policies of President Donald J. Trump.
Many of the protesters carried signs specifying that the president is not a king. Some signs compared the MAGA movement to Nazis or fascists, and cited their rights as Americans to protest. One protestor carried a sign saying "MAGA would be very upset if they could read this."
Trump Has Huge Support In Wyoming
It's worth noting that Donald Trump in three presidential campaigns has recorded huge victory margins in Wyoming. In 2024 he carried the state with just under 72 percent of the vote. Wyoming has not voted for a Democratic presidential candidate since 1964, and is generally considered to be perhaps the reddest of red states.
There can be little doubt that those attending the Saturday event represent a relatively small minority of Wyoming residents. But that doesn't mean everyone in the Cowboy State supports Trump, as those attending the Saturday rally made clear.
The crowd did appear to be somewhat smaller than a June No Kings rally at the capitol that drew an estimated 500-600 people But that is perhaps not surprising in view of weather that was considerably less pleasant for outdoor activities of any kind.
Event Organizer Says He Is "So Proud'' Of Protestors
Event organizer Joe Ramirez of Cheyenne said he was pleased with the turnout. ''I'm so proud of these guys! With the confusion I wasn't sure, but you can look at the crowd"
Ramirez was referring to confusion about the starting time for the event. Some online posts had said it would start at 10 a.m., and a smaller number of people did show up at the capitol at that time until Ramirez arrived on the scene and said it was actually scheduled for noon.
Jacob Camargo of Cheyenne told Townsquare Media "In such a tumultuous time in our country, protests like these give people hope and a chance to voice their strong opposition to all the wrongs that the Trump administration is doing. Its shows we aren"t complacent and we are fighting back."
The Cheyenne event was held in conjunction with similar "No Kings" rallies across the United States on Saturday. Trump's Republican supporters said instead of ''No Kings," a more accurate name for the protests would have been "Hate America" rallies.
A handful of Trump supporters could be seen at an intersection a half a block or so from the rally carrying a large Trump flag. And at one point, a younger man leaned out the window of a car driving past the rally shouting "Make America Great Again! I love America!"
