Police in Rock Springs say they arrested a man earlier this week following a standoff as part of a domestic volence situation.

That's according to a post on the RSPD Facebook page.

According to the post, the incident started at Monday at around 8 p.m. when police got a report where a caller told police she was being held against her will and was not able to leave. She also said that three kids were locked inside a car in the parking lot. Whe police arrived on the scene at 3200 Dewar Drive, they first found the children and moved them to safety.

The Sweetwater County Tactical Operations Group was called in to help with the incident.

Negotiaters contacted the suspect, identified as Cody Birdwell Jr. to try to get him to release the victim and surrender peacefully. At around 9;30 p.m. he let her go, and about 15 minutes later he surrendered to police.

According to the post, Birdwell was charged with two counts of Domestic Battery 1st Offense, one count of aggravated assault and battery, threat to use a drawn deadly weapon, and one count of kidnapping-inflict bodily injury/terrorize.

The post praises the fact that the incident was resolved peacefully.
