Thirty-four people have died on Wyoming's highways this year, compared to 17 in 2018, 19 in 2017 and 10 in 2016 to date.

If the alarming trend continues, the Cowboy State -- which saw 108 fatalities in 2018 -- could see over 150 fatalities this year.

"One of the leading causes still for our fatality rate this year is failing to wear a seat belt," said Wyoming Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeremy Beck.

"Right next to that would be crashes that are directly related to speeding to fast for either road conditions or inexperience on the driver's part," he added.

Beck says there's also been several collisions so far this year that have resulted in two or more fatalities, which have driven the number up.
