Wyoming High School Cross Country Scoreboard: Aug. 26-28, 2021
The 2021 prep cross country season in Wyoming makes its debut this weekend.
Last year’s restrictions are not in place right now, so one of the bigger meets of the season will start things off on Casper Mountain.
Newcastle and Green River are also hosting events on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Some teams are heading to cross-country races out of state. The schedule is subject to change.
Thursday, Aug. 26:
Out-of-State Events:
Madison Dash in Rexburg, ID – Star Valley
The SV girls took 4th in the Jr.-Sr. division. Eve Mavy placed third.
Freshman Habtamu Wetzel took 9th in the Freshman-Sophomore race for the Braves.
Friday, Aug. 27:
KW Beartrap Cross Country Invitational at Beartrap Meadow on Casper Mountain – Buffalo, Campbell County, Cheyenne South, Douglas, Glenrock, Kelly Walsh, Laramie, Natrona County, Pine Bluffs/Burns, Rawlins, Riverton, Saratoga/Encampment, Sheridan, St. Stephens, Thermopolis, Thunder Basin, Wind River, Wyoming Indian
Natrona's Delilah Baedke and Sheridan's Austin Akers won the first races won the season. The Natrona County Fillies and Mustangs swept the team titles.
Mallo Invite at Newcastle – Big Horn, Hulett, Moorcroft, Newcastle, Sundance, Torrington, Wheatland, Wright; Out-of-State teams: Belle Fourche (SD), Hot Springs (SD), Lead-Deadwood (SD)
Mallory Jones of Moorcroft was the top finisher in second place. There were no girls' team scores.
Newcastle's Avery Chick was second in the boys' division. Torrington and Newcastle were second and third in the team race, respectively.
Out-of-State Events:
Billings (MT) Invitational at Amend Park – Cody, Lovell, Powell, Rocky Mountain, Tongue River, Worland
Ava Stafford took fourth place as the top finisher from Wyoming. The Cody girls won the meet with 40 team points.
Tongue River's Wyatt Ostler placed fourth as the highest finisher from Wyoming. The Cody boys placed seventh.
Horizon Invitational at Riverdale Regional Park & Fairgrounds XC Course in Brighton, CO – Cheyenne Central
The Central girls won the meet with 62 points. They had four in the top 21 led by Sydney Morrell in third place.
The Indians took first place with 29 points. They placed five in the top nine led by Jacob Frentheway in third place.
Idaho Falls Night at the Races at Community Park in Idaho Falls, ID – Jackson
Jackson's Kate Brigham wins the girls' race. They finished 2nd in the team standings.
Jackson's Brandon Brazil took 11th place as the top finisher from Wyoming. Jackson placed 4th as a team.
UIAAA Invitational at Spanish Fork, UT – Evanston: Boys = 12th
Saturday, Aug. 28:
Green River Invitational – Green River, Lander, Lyman, Rock Springs
Karly Sabey of Lyman and Charles Fossey from Rock Springs won the 5K races.
Out-of-State Events:
Cherry Creek Steve Lohman Invitational in Greenwood Village, CO – Cheyenne East: Maikaila Trujillo = 21st; Conor Parks = 41st; Girls = 13th; Boys = 14th
Wahsatch Rendezvous at Cottonwood Complex in Salt Lake City, UT – Mountain View
Kate Giorgis and Owen Burnett placed third in their division. Giorgis was 22nd overall and Burnett took 17th overall.
