Wyoming Congresswoman “Likes Philosophy” Behind Health Care Bill
Wyoming Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney says that while she is still studying the House Republican health care plan, she does like the philosophy behind the proposal.
Cheney said on Tuesday that she was going through the bill to see what effect it would have on Wyoming and rural states in general.
She says, however, that she knows House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.), House Ways and Means Committee Chair Kevin Brady (R-Tx.) and Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price have been "working hard to replace Obamacare" with a plan that will give people more choice, more freedom and better access to their own doctors than does the Affordable Care Act.
She also said she likes the idea of introducing more competition and "market philosophy" into health care.
But she says the ACA can't simply be repealed without some kind of replacement because "you don't want to pull the rug out from under people" who have insurance through the health care law. She says another issue is how to handle Medicaid going forward in view of the fact that 32 states expanded that program under the ACA.
Cheney says she is planning on meeting with people around Wyoming to get their input on health care, starting with several sessions at her Casper office on Monday
