Wyoming ‘Choice To Work’ Supporters Rally At Capitol Building

Supporters of lifting restrictions put in place to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic rallied on the steps of the Wyoming Capitol Building on Monday.

In an interview on Saturday, event organizer Susan Graham told Townsquare Media of Cheyenne that the main purpose of the rally would be to allow the citizens of Wyoming to make their own decisions about what precautions, if any, to take in regard to COVID-19.

Graham cited section 7 of the Wyoming Constitution in support of her argument. That section reads as follows

Sec. 7. No absolute, arbitrary power. Absolute, arbitrary power over the lives, liberty and property of freemen exists nowhere in a republic, not even in the largest majority.

Supporters of restrictions in public places argue that the pandemic could overwhelm Wyoming health care providers if steps are not in place to slow the spread of the disease.

Governor Mark Gordon said on Friday that the current restrictions will remain in place through April 30. But the governor has so far resisted calls to implement a statewide ''shelter-in-place order'' similar to what has been mandated in Colorado and many other states.

The governor also said he plans to release a phased plan for gradually lifting the restrictions sometime this week.
