CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The U.S. government has sold the rights to drill for oil and gas on areas totaling 290 square miles (750 square kilometers) in Wyoming.

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management quarterly oil and gas lease sale Wednesday and Thursday raised over $22 million. About half of those proceeds go to the federal government and the other half to the state.

The BLM offered 160 parcels for sale and received bids on 151. BLM officials say they deferred leasing on parcels that overlap state-designated wildlife migration corridors.

BLM lease sales in Wyoming brought in nearly $117 million in 2018.
