Online Poll: What Is The Biggest Traffic Issue In Cheyenne?
Cheyenne Mayor Patrick Collins last week spoke out on the issue of people speeding on city streets.
Mayor Collins Mentions Speeding
In his "Mayor's Minute" column on Friday, the Mayor wrote the following about going out with a Cheyenne Police Officer on traffic patrol last Wednesday night
''We set up on a busy neighborhood street and used LIDAR to monitor speeds. In a four-hour shift, we found many drivers going at or below the speed limit of 30 mph – thank you to those drivers. We also had a dozen cars that our radar system caught going over 40 mph. On Tuesday, he clocked several cars going over 55 mph and one going 60! I can tell you the folks we pulled over were shocked by the $200 to $300 tickets they received. Life is busy and we are all in a hurry. Please join City Council and I in our goal to make our community safer by slowing down and driving the speed limit.''

Potholes are nothing new in Cheyenne. People have been complaining and commenting on them for as long as we can remember. But the problem never seems to go away
In a recent interview, we asked City Councilwoman Michelle Aldrich if potholes are simply something that can't be fixed. But Aldrich said she doesn't believe that. She said one thing people need to do is report potholes on the city website dedicated to alerting the city about them.
Running Red Lights Can Be Fatal
Then there are red light runners. If you've lived long in Cheyenne you've almost certainly seen people get in a hurry and run a red light.
Some folks on social media complain that if you get stuck on one red light in Cheyenne, they are timed so that you will consistently hit red light after red light. Critics say all that does is encourage people to run the lights to avoid getting stuck in the cycle of lights.
Be that as it may, it's clear that running red lights is a dangerous and potentially fatal practice. People shouldn't do it, but the fact is they often do and it seems to happen a lot in Cheyenne.
