With the sun being hot and bright these days and people getting out in it, it's probably a good time to start thinking about how to protect ourselves from sun damage to our bodies.

Today on the Top 5 at 7:45, I'll highlight my top 5 ways to protect yourself from the sun. The Top 5 at 7:45 airs weekdays with me, Gary Freeman, on KGAB Mornings.

  1. Talk to your dermatologist and have a full body scan done once a year.
  2. Generously apply sunscreen to you, your kids and family with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 15 as you don't want to go any lower. Also, ensure that it is resistant to water.
  3. Wear hats, glasses and pack an umbrella.
  4. Avoid tanning beds. These will make a 30 year old look 60.
  5. During 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. seek shady areas as these can be the hottest times of the day.
