Oregon police are still looking for the guy who stole a car, then returned and lecture the mother about leaving her 4-year-old son in the vehicle.

KPTV reports the lady went into the grocery store, just to pick up one thing. She would only be a moment. She left the car running and her son in the back.

Most of us know the hassle of getting the kid out of the car, walking him through the store, then bringing him back and strapping him into the car seat. That's a lot of work. So, if this mom was only going to be in the store to grab one thing, she could save a lot of time by just leaving him there - just for a moment. What could possibly go wrong?

This does, however, make her SUV a target of opportunity for a thief. While she was not even through the door and into the store the thief was speeding off.

But the moment he realized there was a little boy in the back, he turned around.

The thief jumped out of the SUV, yelled at the mom, threatened to call the cops on her, then walked off.

"We're thankful he had the decency to bring the little one back."  Beaverton Police Officer Matt Henderson told CNN.

Mom admitted she had made a big mistake.

"As moms, we get really busy and we think we’re just running in for a second," the victim told KPTV. "This is just a perfect example of just letting our guards down and how terribly it could have ended."

"I am just thankful he is OK. It was so stupid and I’ll never do that again, but it’s that split-second decision that could just change everything," Said Mom.

No word on the suspect yet. At least one person here has learned a lesson.
