Tevis Bartlett Hopes to Become Cheyenne’s 7th NFL Player

Former Cheyenne East High Thunderbird Tevis Bartlett will be showing off his skills for the scouts at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis this weekend.

Bartlett was a star quarterback and wrestler at East, leading the T-birds to a state title on the football field in 2013 and winning four state titles on the mat. After choosing the University of Washington over Wyoming and several other schools, he moved to linebacker and quickly became a force for the Huskies defense. Bartlett started 23 games as a junior and senior and was named to All-Pac 12 Conference Team in 2017 and the All-Academic Pac-12 Conference Team three times.

The 6'4", 230 lb. linebacker is projected to be a mid-round pick at the NFL Draft in April. Bartlett would be the fourth Cheyenne East alum to play in the NFL, following in the footsteps of linebacker Troy Dumas, who stared at Nebraska in college and spent two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals, defensive back Jesse Johnson, who played at the University of Colorado and spent three seasons with the New York Jets, and safety Mike McLeod, who went to Montana State before joining the Green Bay Packers in 1984 and 1985.

Bartlett could also become East High's third current professional athlete, joining Miami Heat forward James Johnson, now in his 10th NBA season, and New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo, who is entering his fourth MLB season.

Cheyenne Central has also produced three future NFL players. Wide receiver Boyd Dowler was an All-American at Colorado and won five championships with the Green Bay Packers. Linebacker Jim Eliopulos played at Wyoming before spending three seasons with the New York Jets and St. Louis Cardinals. Another Central receiver, Don Westbrook, played at Nebraska in college and spent five seasons with the New England Patriots.

Wyoming will be well represented at the NFL Combine this weekend, along with Bartlett, University of Wyoming safety Andrew Wingard and Pokes defensive end Carl Granderson are also hoping to improve their draft position.
