‘Superload’ Moves Through Laramie, Continues Along Wyoming Roads [VIDEO]
A 'superload' was moved through Laramie Sunday morning before continuing along its route to a destination in southwestern Wyoming.
The load contains a compressor generator building. It's 18 feet wide, 22 feet high, 140 feet long and weighs about 400,000 pounds.
"It looks like a backyard shed on steroids," said Gregory Cross, the heavy haul supervisor with the company moving the superload.
The load was too large to move beneath the I-80 bridge over U.S. 287, so it had to get onto I-80 eastbound, make a U-turn, and exit back onto South Third Street.
It will then take WYO 487 to WYO 220 south, then head for Muddy Gap, where it will again catch U.S. 287 north to Jeffrey City.
A county road will take the load from Jeffrey City to Wamsutter, where it will enter I-80 westbound.
After moving through downtown Laramie, the haul hit WYO 487 north. It headed to WYO 220 south, which will take the superload to Muddy Gap and U.S. 287 north again to Jeffrey City.
From Jeffrey City, the superload will take a county road to Wamsutter and then I-80 westbound.
On Monday, the superload will continue west along I-80, make a U-turn at milepost 130 and return to exit 130. From there, it will take the I-80 frontage road west to Middle Baxter Road, then continue to WYO 430.
From there, it will turn onto Bitter Creek Road and continue to its final destination.
Because of the length of the superload, safely passing the vehicle on two-lane roads may be difficult.
