Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Dale Steenbergen says city and county officials planning street projects need to carefully consider the impacts on businesses in the construction area.

Steenbergen says that while he believes most of the street construction and improvement projects in Cheyenne are worthwhile and in many cases necessary, they are nonetheless difficult for businesses located nearby because the projects tend to reduce the number of customers in those areas.

Steenbergen says officials should devote a great deal of thought to what can be done to lessen that impact. He also says they should always avoid having a project in the same area two years in a row, because while most businesses can survive one slow year, two consecutive such years may be fatal.
