Greater Cheyenne Chamber of  Commerce C-E-O and President Dale Steenbergen says based on what he's hearing it's unlikely F. E. Warren Air Force Base--or any similar military base- will be closed within the next couple of years. But Steenbergen says that doesn't mean the base near Cheyenne won't experience any budget cuts over the next few years, especially in funding for equipment. He says decisions made at the national level in coming months could definitely impact the long-term future of the base. But he says F.E. Warren is helped by being an especially cost-effective military operation, a factor he hopes will weigh against cuts in funding for the base. Steenbergen also notes there have been on-going layoffs of civilian employees at F.E. Warren for some time.
