Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Dale Steenbergen says local merchants are expecting to be busy over the next month.

He says the fact the local economy is doing well is driving expectations, noting a lot of new jobs have been created over the past year. He also says a general sense of optimism about the Laramie County economy and the fact that many people are have more money to spend is generating strong expectations.

Steenbergen says in general he expects local merchants on average "to do a little better this year" compared to last. He says that while there are some concerns about inflation,  he thinks to overall vitality of the local economy will more than offset those worries.

Steenbergen is also asking people to shop locally, adding "those dollars stay in our community, which is important". He also says many residents may not be aware of the wide variety of stores and products that are available in the area.
