Wyoming has produced dozens of professional football players over the years, including 12 gridiron greats who went on to become Super Bowl Champions.

Recently, the sports website Fansided published a list ranking the "Best NFL Player From Each State".  Their pick for Wyoming's greatest player was the legendary Boyd Dowler.

Dowler was born in Rock Springs and later moved to Cheyenne, where he became a star quarterback at Cheyenne Central High School. After college, he was drafted by the Green Bay Packers and was converted to wide receiver.

The NFL Rookie of the Year in 1959, Dowler was a five-time NFL Champion, a two-time Super Bowl Champion, a member of the NFL 1960s All-Decade Team, the NFL 50th Anniversary All-Time Team and was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame.

Following his playing career, Dowler spent another 14 seasons in the NFL as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Rams, Washington Redskins, Philadelphia Eagles, Cincinnati Bengals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
