Very Hot Week, High Fire Danger In SE Wyoming Forecast

A very hot week with elevated fire danger is ahead for southeast Wyoming, according to the Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service.

The agency issued the following update on Monday morning, July 13:

The Red Flag Warning and Heat Advisory were extended through Wednesday Night. However, there is some uncertainty in how much we may cool off Thursday and Friday with the upcoming shortwave. So, any extensions may be considered Wednesday. Although higher confidence in at least elevated fire conditions.

Key Updated Messages:

• An upper-level ridge remains over the Intermountain West through this week.
• Overnight temperatures are expected to be between 70 to 75 degrees through 3am for little relief from warm temperatures.
• Shortwave comes Thursday for possible Dry Thunderstorms in Carbon and Albany Counties.

UPDATES:

• The Red Flag Warning was extended through Wednesday 8PM and now includes the entire Panhandle.
• The Heat Advisory was extended through Midnight Wednesday

July 12th, 3PM - The only way to describe the upcoming week is as follows: hot, dry, and breezy. Daily high temperatures will be in the upper-80s to low-100s everyday this week, with highly isolated (~15%) chances for showers over the the mountains. Elevated fire danger is expected everyday as hot temperatures combine with dry and breezy conditions. Overnight lows will be relatively warm, compared to what is usually seen across the region. Overnight lows will struggle to drop below the 55-60 mark, with most places seeing overnight lows in the 60s and 70s. Use caution this week as outdoor burning is not recommended and very hot temperatures could lead to heat-related illnesses. Take the time to cool off and check on your neighbors, especially those more vulnerable to heat-related issues
