Large Hail, 60 MPH Winds, Heavy Rain Possible In SE Wyoming

The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service is warning of possible severe storms in southeast Wyoming this afternoon.

The agency sent out a message this morning, which included the following:

• A few isolated strong to severe storms possible this afternoon with the main threats being large hail (2+ inches) and damaging wind gusts (60+mph).
• Tornadoes are not anticipated this afternoon.
• Localized heavy rain and flash flooding will be possible with the slow-moving storms and ample moisture this afternoon.

The weather service posted the following on its website:

There is a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather for much of the area this afternoon with a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for the I-80 corridor from Cheyenne to Kimball. A few isolated, strong to severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon with very large hail (2+ inches), damaging wind gusts (60+ mph), and isolated flash flooding as the primary threats. Tornadoes are not anticipated. Best time for storms will be 3 to 9 PM this afternoon and evening. Coverage of storms will be low, but the storms that do form are expected to be strong. Have multiple ways to receive watches and warnings today! The severe weather threat continues tomorrow.
