Poll: Would Dumping Daylight Saving Time Be Good For Wyoming?
In a post on Truth Social a couple of weeks ago, President-elect Trump vowed to try to get rid of Daylight Saving Time.
He posted the following: ''The Republican Party will use its best efforts to eliminate Daylight Saving Time, which has a small but strong constituency, but shouldn’t! Daylight Saving Time is inconvenient, and very costly to our Nation.''
Is This An Idea Whose Time Has Come?
The idea of changing the clocks twice a year has come under increasing scrutiny in recent years. Arguments in favor of getting rid of the time changes include statistics showing increases in accidents and even heart attacks when the clock changes. There is also the argument that in an age of computers and air conditioning, the savings in energy that originally prompted the concept of changing the clocks are negligible, if they even exist at all in the 21st century.
But among those who dislike the time changes, there is some sentiment for getting rid of Standard Time and going to year-round Daylight Saving Time instead. Some Daylight Saving Time supporters argue that it tends to lower the car accident rate because people are less likely to be driving home from work in the dark. And there is always the argument that Daylight Saving Time allows people to enjoy summer daytime activities after they get off work.
Then again, there are still traditionalists who like changing the clocks twice a year under the argument that ''if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Why change a long ingrained habit just because of some minor inconveniences twice a year? Besides, they say the current system aligns better with summer and winter weather patterns and their impact on our daily lives.
So what do you think? Do you agree with President-elect Trump? Or maybe you like the idea of dumping the time changes, but think year-round Daylight Saving Time would be a better approach.
