PETA To Drive Truck With Fake Pigs, Recorded Screams In Cheyenne
PETA, or People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals, says it will be driving it's ''Hell on Wheels'' truck around Cheyenne eateries that serve pork on Saturday.
That's according to a PETA news release.
The truck includes realistic-looking phony pigs and will play a soundtrack of what it says are "actual recorded sounds of the animals’ panicked screams along with a subliminal message every 10 seconds suggesting that people go vegan."
PETA Pledges To Give Diners "An Earful"
The release specifically says they plan to drive near Sanford's Grub & Pub around noon on Saturday. Beyond that, PETA says they will drive near "other local eateries that serve pork," adding that diners at those establishments "are in for an earful."
The release claims pigs are badly mistreated "In the meat industry, workers chop off piglets’ tails, clip their teeth with pliers, and castrate the males—all without pain relief. When the time comes for slaughter, they’re crammed onto trucks and transported hundreds of miles through all weather extremes without food, water, or rest. Every year, more than 1 million pigs die, and at least 40,000 others sustain injuries during transport to slaughterhouses."
PETA's motto includes the phrase "animals are not ours to eat" and "Every animal is someone."
In a state where ranching is a major industry, rodeo is the official sport and where most residents enjoy a good ribeye steak, or pork chop dinner, it's safe to say that PETA's views are controversial and seen by many as extreme. The organization discourages meat consumption. and the wearing of leather, viewpoints that run counter to Wyoming's traditional cowboy culture.
The organization's name is sometimes jokingly disparaged among Wyomingites as standing for "People Eating Tasty Animals."
