The Laramie County Board of Health on Tuesday asked County Health Officer Dr. Stan Hartman to write a face mask mandate for county residents.

The motion which was approved unanimously by the board on a 5-0 vote, would call for the creation of a similar mandate to one which was imposed earlier this year in Teton County.

That mandate requires face masks must be worn inside businesses, in lines to enter businesses, and in taxis, among other places. The Teton County mandate does have several exemptions, including for medical reasons.

Cheyenne Mayor Marian Orr has thrown her support behind the proposed mandate, saying Laramie County faces a choice of ''mask up or shutdown' in light of the rapidly increasing number of COVID-19 cases.
