This week's online poll deals with climate change.

Many scientists say the burning of fossil fuels, including gasoline, coal, and petroleum products is causing the climate to warm up, which will eventually lead to dire consequences such as the melting of the polar ice caps increasing water levels which will eventually leave many coastal cities underwater.

Among many, global warming is considered a proven scientific fact as well as a phenomenon which presents a serious challenge to the future of our planet. You can read more about the evidence for climate change here.

But the belief in global warming is far from universal. Many people argue that the earth has always gone through periods of warming and cooling and that the recent warming trend is simply part of a natural process that has little to do with human activity.

Other skeptics challenge the idea that the earth is getting warmer at all. You can read about some of the arguments against climate change here.

So what do you think? We'll publish the results of our poll on Monday, June 17.
