On This Day In Cheyenne History – Two Hanged By Vigilantes
It was not a good day for two men accused of different crimes in Cheyenne. It was on this day in 1868, that two men were hanged by local vigilantes.
Charlie Morgan was allegedly a mule thief and Charles Martin was accused of shooting Andy Harris, who had a business on West 16th Street in Cheyenne. Martin was acquitted of his alleged crime.
During this time, a 'secret court' was taking place in the Capitol City by some local vigilantes, who found the two men guilty.
On this day in 1868, two lynched bodies were found on the east end of Lincolnway. Those two bodies were those of Charlie Morgan and Charles Martin.
Seemed to be a tough day to be a Charlie.
